This is a bit OT on BLACS/SCALAPACK, but I had great success ( at least
with medium sized matrices) with SPOOLES and LAM/MPI.
SPOOLES has
- MPI
- threaded ( for SMP)
- and serial versions
of it's sparse solvers.
