I noticed one small detail for Linux. If you setup LAM on one machine using
GNOME desktop and on the second one using KDE then you have to manually fix
the PATH variable.

Sorry -- I should have been a little more specific here.

PATH kinds of issues (which is what it sounds like you're running into)
are covered in detail in the LAM FAQ under the "Booting LAM" section as
well as the "Getting Started with LAM/MPI" chapter in the 7.0 user's guide
(in particular, the "One Time Setup" section in that chapter).
