I'm fairly surprised that LAM does not compile cleanly for you -- the 6.5
series is very stable and well-tested.

That being said, the 6.5 series is officially retired (soon enough it will
disappear from our web page). If you're having problems with 6.5.x, you
should download and install the latest version: 7.0.2.

As a previous poster noted, an easy configuration is to install LAM on NFS
and therefore it's available on all nodes "for free". See the LAM FAQ and
the 7.0 installation guide for more information on this topic -- it's
discussed quite extensively.

I'm not quite sure what you meant by this -- the "same errors" being the
path issues, or the version mismatch issues?

I strongly encourage you to upgrade to the 7.0.x series and check out all
the formal documentation that accompanies it (the installation guide and
the user's guide).
