I've observed the same behaviour :( I also make use of derived datatypes
very often in my app. In the long runs (1-2h) it consumes
memory increasingly (few MB per hour - very small amount when compared to
the volume of data processed in the same time) but no memory leak was
detected
nor by Efence either Valgrind. Having no idea what is happenning, I
divided simulation runs. I know it's ugly but works.
