strange question!!! mpi is a standard for comunications.
its implementation is based on tci/ip the most used :-)
series of protocols for comunications on the internet.
but there are some mpi functionalities for shared memory
based on sysv (i hope) wich is itslef another standard for
comunication (inter process comunication).

What is the real question?
