I am using the 6.5.9 version. I checked the man pages again and the -ton
option is not mentioned anywhere. I did the basic install (the 6.5.9
package from the website) so I thought maybe there might be a configure
switch or something that might install a more comprehensive version?

Yes. The problem I have is that the -ton action is ignored so the
def.lamtr file is empty even after lamtrace is executed.
