I'm not sure what version of LAM/MPI you are using - the MPIRUN man page
for all the recent versions of LAM includes documentation on the -ton
option.
Note that specifying -ton doesn't actually provide the end user with any
tracing information - it simply causes the application to collect data
that can later be retrieved by either XMPI or the lamtrace command.
