The problem turned out to be an issue with LAM's configure script. I
think this has happened before, but LAM was having problems setting the
Autoconf prefix correctly if no --prefix was supplied at configure time
and LAM was already installed.
Since the issue is easily resolved by removing the old copy of LAM or
specifying prefix on the command line, we are going to fix the configure
script in CVS only. It will make its way into the next release, which
won't happen in the immediate future.
