Here's a few of the big changes in 6.5.5:
- There is a bug with file descriptor passing with some versions of GNU
libc and non-GNU compilers. 6.5.5 works around the bug, fixing the
'set_stdio' error seen by some LAM users.
- 6.5.5 officially retires the 6.4 series -- the IMPI extensions have been
merged into the 6.5 series.
- Fixes a few problems related to using LAM on very large numbers of
machines.
- Fixes an obscure symbol clash with ncurses libraries.
- Random other bug fixes.
- Although the license of LAM/MPI was effectively BSD-like, its
language was non-standard and quite specific to Notre Dame. This
release officially changes the license to the BSD license.
Additional changes can be found in the HISTORY file included with the
6.5.5 release.
All users are encouraged to upgrade as soon as possible. Source tarballs,
binary RPMS (for i386 Red Hat 7.1), and source RPMS are available on the
LAM download page:

Enjoy.
